In the 24th week of implementation of the project "Humanitarian Support COVID-19", the ADRA team reached 1,455 people, of which: 1,129 adults are fighting to ensure decent living conditions; 160 are single elderly people with acute subsistence needs; 120 are children from disadvantaged backgrounds, but who have exceptional academic results; 37 are entrepreneurs who continue their economic activity; and 9 are victims of domestic violence.
Therefore, in the week of August 16-22 alone, through the ADRA project “Humanitarian Support COVID-19”, the specialized services adapted to the specific needs generated or accentuated by the COVID-19 context were materialized for 1,455 beneficiaries, as follows: 1,285 people received basic food for a decent living and to be able to get through these days of crisis more easily, of which 75 received a hot meal at home, every day; 100 newborns received baby kits and help at the beginning of their journey, according to needs; 37 entrepreneurs were monitored in the adaptation and development of economic activity; 24 people received help through shelter provided; 9 people benefited from social assistance and psychological crisis counseling.
“Finding or talking about opportunities in these hard times may be inappropriate or at least strange,”, said Adrian Ballai, project manager for ADRA Romania. “And yet, in the context of the current regulations on physical distance, measures to protect and prevent transmission and infection with the COVID-19 virus, we at ADRA—together with partners, sponsors, donors—have found the opportunity to do good to people, to get closer to their soul, to help them, to be with them. Sometimes, through a kind word, a package of food, a coat, a disinfectant, we managed to bring joy, confidence, and even hope, in a world increasingly affected by fear and anxiety. And we have also found the chance to rejoice, to see gratitude in the eyes of men, and to reap those fruits of joy of serving our fellow men, springing from the love that comes from God. Thank you all for your help and your involvement; I invite you to experience, with us, more and more OPPORTUNITIES to do a lot of good to those in crises” said Adrian Ballai.

Within the project, “Humanitarian support COVID-19”, specially created for the current situation, ADRA Romania aims to reduce the risks generated by the COVID-19 virus among the population. The objective is achieved by promoting prevention measures and socio-economic adaptability and by ensuring the need for commodities to maintain safety.
