ADRA Czech Republic wins the Award of the European citizen’s prize

The Award of the European citizen’s prize is granted by the European Parliament for a lasting contribution to the development of civic engagement.

During one quarter of a century ADRA has helped tens of thousands of people in need. Now for its activities, this organization won the Award of the European citizen.For its humanitarian and development assistance to tens of thousands of people in need, a Czech branch of the international NGO ADRA has gained a remarkable award for civic engagement - the Award of the European Citizen's Prize.The Award of the European citizen’s prize is granted by the European Parliament for a lasting contribution to the development of civic engagement. ADRA country director in the Czech Republic, Radomir Špinka received the award at a ceremony in Brussels on Wednesday, 12. 10. 2016, for everyday hard work of the whole team.

"Helping where people need us, is our mission. We are pleased that we have gained an award and this obliges us to continue with our work that contributes to positive changes in the life of every particular man who will get support from us. I would like to thank all former and current employees, volunteers and supporters of ADRA who have helped with every concrete aid." said R. Špinka.ADRA was nominated for this prestigious award by one Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Tomas Zdechovský: "A Humanitarian, development and educational work of ADRA is known in the Czech Republic so I'm very happy that it has received a deserved reward and the Award of the European Citizen was granted. The Award of the European citizen - CIVI EUROPAEO PRAEMIUM – has been granted by the European Parliament since 2008 to promote better mutual understanding and closer integration between the citizens and the Member States for the mediation of cross-border or transnational cooperation within the European Union or for daytime activity that specifically expresses the values ​​of the Charter of Fundamental EU rights.

An individual, group, association or organization can be honored by this award. Only Members of the European Parliament have the right to propose candidates whereas each Member may annually submit one proposal. National juries consisting of at least three Members sort nominations by preference. The Award is granted by the Office of the Award of the European citizen composed of the Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament, its former presidents and other notables.
