The morning of February 24, 2022 brought a sad confirmation of the tense situation in Ukraine. Given the situation generated by the conflict, panic dominates the atmosphere.
In this context, the objective of the "Hope for Ukraine" project, coordinated by ADRA Romania, is to help those affected by the war, meeting their immediate needs by providing information, food, clothing, shelter, and social assistance, as well as psychological support.
"The Seventh-day Adventist Church is in solidarity with Ukrainian refugees seeking shelter in Romania or transiting our country,” declared Aurel Neațu, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Romania. “We offer help through our institutions and volunteers, and we have created a working group with the directors of the Department of Ethnic Groups, the pastors from the northeast of Romania and ADRA Romania. We have opened the doors of our accommodation centers nationally and regionally,” he continued, “and connect our food and accommodation offerings from our faithful with requests received from the border. The Adventist Church is involved in managing the situation and in contact with Adventists throughout Ukraine, through representatives of the Church in Chernivtsi.” Neatu concluded: “Romanian Adventists are praying for the Ukrainians in crisis, for the victims of the war machine and for peace in the region.”
Hope for Ukraine
ADRA Romania joins the humanitarian intervention, following the war, for refugees in Ukraine, through the project " Hope for Ukraine ". As always, in times of crisis, in addition to the pain caused by unexpected disasters, one can also see human solidarity acting. The refugee situation is a call for responsibility and compassion in order to give priority to life and human dignity.
“In the context of the war in Ukraine, ADRA Romania demands solidarity with our fellow refugees,” said Robert Georgescu, executive director of ADRA Romania. “Behind the testimonies and statistics are real people with sad stories about suffering and loss, as well as hope and motivation, people I have never met, but who need help," concluded Georgescu.
The humanitarian convoy of ADRA Romania in Ukraine returns home safely
On February 27, after 29 hours, the ADRA humanitarian convoy in Ukraine arrived home. Thousands of donated products (mattresses, blankets, pillows, linen, hygiene products, medicines, and food supplements) arrived in the city of Chernivtsi, a significant part of them being transferred to other vans, with the donations finding their way to Kyiv and other areas of the country.
According to information received from local authorities since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency - ADRA Romania is the only humanitarian association that has made a donation export, except for another donation made by a monastery in the area.
The humanitarian convoy of ADRA "Hope for Ukraine" did not encounter any difficulties.
Emergency humanitarian assistance for Ukrainian refugees, provided by ADRA Romania volunteers, continues at the Halmeu, Sigetu Marmației, Siret, and Isaccea border points.
