For most children, December is the month of gifts, peace, joy, and family time. For children from disadvantaged families, however, things are different: this image is just a beautiful dream come true. Because of the worries that weigh on their parents' shoulders and because of the absence or departure of one of the parents, part of the joy of childhood is lost. Instead of playing, these children’s time is absorbed by shortcomings and sadness.
In the ADRA project, "Children help children", young volunteers bring joy and hope to the hearts of their peers.
The project broadens the horizons of involvement in the field of aid and doing good, addressing all those who feel, want, and can do good without being limited by technical rigors. The project aims to promote volunteering and the spirit of social responsibility among children and young people. Adapted to the children's understanding, the project begins with a game in which each child receives a purse which they assemble and then use to raise the money needed to purchase what they want to give. Through play, children make friends and develop by learning the art of generosity and, through altruistic gestures, bring joy into the lives of other children.
“Children help Children“ is a project that aims also for cohesion with the local community, the involvement and altruism of those who want to do good.
“We are glad that our volunteers are helping their fellow human beings in need, and we encourage them to continue doing so,” explained Bogdan Stănică, ADRA Romania Project Manager. “At the moment, a total of 1,271 boxes were distributed to 7 regions in the country, namely: Muntenia, Dobrogea, Moldova, Bucovina, Transylvania, Maramureș, and Oltenia.
For 14 years, between 2007 - 2020, within the ADRA project, "Children help children", which falls within the field of expertise " Basic Education and Health", 51,332 children from vulnerable families were supported.
