As part of a humanitarian project in which ADRA Switzerland is significantly involved, and which is being realised in cooperation with ADRA Ukraine, two vans were driven by ADRA volunteers from Switzerland to Ukraine on August 20 and handed over to those in charge there.

ADRA Ukraine has asked for transport vehicles that are urgently needed to transport hygiene kits and water bottles as well as recreational, children's and youth kits to the transit centres for IDPs within the country. Thanks to the vehicle donation by a Swiss company, which offered ADRA Switzerland two vans for this project, this request could be met.

A long journey

Six young men volunteered to work for ADRA Switzerland. They arrived in Ukraine with the two vans and an escort vehicle after a journey of almost two days. The vehicles were declared at Ukrainian customs and handed over to ADRA Ukraine staff.

Motivation to help

"ADRA Ukraine is happy that they received these vehicles from Switzerland. And for us, this vehicle transfer was an opportunity to help the people in Ukraine directly and to make a small contribution to something good. Therefore, we all spontaneously agreed to support ADRA Switzerland in this project," said one of the drivers.

ADRA Switzerland

ADRA Switzerland is part of a worldwide network with 118 independent country offices and about 7,500 full-time employees worldwide. ADRA Switzerland was founded in 1987 as a relief organisation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Switzerland. ADRA Switzerland is the successor organisation to the Adventist welfare organisation founded in 1942, during the Second World War, which was mainly active within Switzerland. The Swiss office, with eleven employees, is located in Aarau, and the headquarters is in Zurich.

When identifying and implementing projects at the international level, the relief agency works primarily with ADRA partner organisations on the ground. ADRA provides aid regardless of race, ethnic origin, gender, religion or belief, disability, age, or sexual identity. More about the relief agency: www.adra.ch
