The Adventist Development and Relief Agency in Ukraine (ADRA Ukraine) is preparing various emergency shelters for internally displaced persons (IDPs)in the country, readying them for the pending winter with the delivery of an initial 97 tonnes of fuel briquettes. A refugee shelter in Buča also received an electricity generator.

97 tonnes of fuel briquettes for refugee shelters

The five emergency shelters for internally displaced persons (IDPs) asked ADRA Ukraine for support for the winter. The shelter in Kamianka, in the Cherkassy region, received 32 tonnes of fuel oil; a shelter for the visually impaired, in a former factory in Dnipro, received 12 tonnes; and 20 tonnes went to the emergency shelter of a charitable foundation. In the Lviv region, in the west of the country, the emergency shelter in Drohobych is to receive 3 tonnes and the emergency shelter in Barvinok, in Novyi Rozdil, 30 tonnes of fuel. With these fuel deliveries, people should no longer be exposed to the cold, as was the case last winter due to the numerous attacks by the Russian army on the energy infrastructure.

Buča: Power generator for IDPs in container settlement

Last winter, according to ADRA Ukraine, a container settlement in Buča, which houses around 200 IDPs, experienced frequent power outages due to attacks on critical infrastructure. Most of the residents are elderly and disabled, including bedridden people. To ensure a continuous power supply and avoid interruptions in heating and electricity, ADRA Ukraine provided the container settlement with a powerful diesel generator with a capacity of 220 kW.

Winter aid from Germany

ADRA Ukraine is providing this winter aid with the support of the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, Aktion Deutschland Hilft, and ADRA Germany. They want to prepare the most vulnerable population groups in Ukraine for the upcoming winter period, according to ADRA Ukraine.
