Bern, August 7, 2012 [CD-EUDNews]. Few weeks ago, the news of the senseless tragedy at the Aurora Colorado Theater was in everyone's mind. There are no words to qualify such event that remembered us the massacre in Utoya Island, Norway last July 22, 2011. Once again, words of sadness have been spent by many Adventist representatives. Rocky Mountain Conference president, Gary Thurber, stated, "Our hearts go out to all those are affected by the shooting. The victims and their families will remain in our thoughts and prayers." Elder Dan Jackson, president of the North American Division also shared: "As caring Seventh-day Adventist Christians we need to lift up the bereaved and the suffering and appeal to God for the survival of those who are presently struggling to stay alive. Oh that Jesus would come soon."
Bruno Vertallier, president of the Euro-Africa Division, states: "We join in prayer with the families and assure them that we are suffering together with them”. “We are completely astonished and shaken. We are suffering together with the families of victims,” said Corrado Cozzi, Euro-Africa Region Communication director, “We would like to add a heartfelt appeal to the US government (and also to other governments worldwide) to take legal action, aimed at preventing such dramatic events.”
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a religious movement that emphasizes the importance of family and education. Adventists are convinced that violent images influence us strongly, especially the mind of adolescents. Thus, “we would like to urge public institutions and those involved with the youth, to seriously consider how to support parents and educational institutions in their work with the youth, who are our future leaders” concluded Corrado Cozzi.
