Bern/St.Albany [CD-EUDNews/tedNEWS]. During this period of isolation, families world-wide are recognising that mums are central to well-being, giving comfort, sharing love, and perhaps the greatest skills of all multitasking!
“In the middle of this Coronavirus turmoil, where we are offering a word of hope through video messages," states Adrian Dure, overall producer of the series, a product of the GAiN Europe leadership team. "We would pay tribute to all the mums with this special, warm-hearted #dearmum video clip."
Thank you, mums, for your unceasing support for your families. It may be Mother’s Day in many parts of the world – but we want to tell you that you are special every day. As demonstrated in the video, our thanks extend to all the many times that you have gone the second mile for each of us, your children. Every-day should be Mother's Day!
So where does Mother's Day come from?
We need to look back to the early 1900’s. Anna Jarvis started a campaign for an official holiday in 1905, the year her own mother died. She put Mother’s Day on the calendar as a day dedicated to expressing love and gratitude to mothers, acknowledging the sacrifices women make for their children.
But the real reason behind her campaign was because of the role her own mother played in uniting woman for good causes. Mama Jarvis—also known as Ann Reeves Jarvis—cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the field during the American Civil War.
She worked with mothers in a spirit of peace inspired also by ‘Mother’s Day Proclamation’, written by Julia Ward Howe on 1870, calling on mothers to work towards world peace
Today Mother’s Day is celebrated in a variety of ways and on different dates in different countries, though many countries observe the holiday on the same day as the United States—proof of the powerful impact made by Anna Jarvis
#Dearmum is our tribute to mothers around the world. It is made by real mums along with their sons and daughters. They may be separated during this time of confinement but together they recognise and rejoice in seeing the central role and love provided by mothers.
The #Dearcoronavirus series is a positive message of hope being shared around the world in multiple languages. Be part of this programme of hope by sharing these videos with your circle of friends across your social media platforms. You can watch the whole series on this YouTube playlist and on Facebook.
