On Friday, July 29, Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the city of Kyiv, received two fire engines from ADRA Germany. The fire engines are part of the Ukraine emergency aid, which ADRA implements together with Aktion Deutschland Hilft since the beginning of the war.
In mid-July, Christian Molke, chairman of the board of ADRA Deutschland, traveled to Poland to oversee the delivery of two fire trucks. The fire trucks are equipped with special extinguishing foam devices that are used to fight fires of fire classes A (solids) and B (liquids or substances that become liquid). The fire trucks were received and put into service today, by Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the city of Kyiv.
"In Kyiv, civil infrastructure is under attack. Among other things, this results in fires of fuel storage facilities and highly flammable chemicals. To extinguish these fires, the Kyiv Fire Department needs special fire trucks equipped with firefighting foam. We were able to obtain two vehicles in Poland and hand them over to Dr. Bogdan Balasynovych, representative of the city of Kyiv. Tobias Kurzmaier, chairman of the Aktionskreis für Wirtschaft, Politik und Wissenschaft e.V. (Action Group for Economy, Politics and Science), gave us fantastic support as an advisor and contact broker. The vehicles have meanwhile been received by the mayor of the city of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko," Christian Molke is pleased to report.
Video message from Mayor Klitschko
In a video, Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko thanks ADRA: "Thank you very much for your help and the modern fire fighting vehicles. Your support is very important for our safety. Hopefully, the end of the war will soon be reached."
"Our thanks go to Aktion Deutschland Hilft, which, together with ADRA, secured the funding. We are happy and grateful to be able to make a substantial contribution to firefighting. The fire trucks will save lives," stated Christian Molke.
In June, ADRA was also able to purchase two mobile computer tomographs and hand them over to the city of Kyiv. The two CT scanners are in use in a municipal hospital and a pediatric clinic.
