Bern, Switzerland [CD EUDNews]. On this day (May 21) in 1863, at this time (6pm), the first General Conference Session convened in the Second Seventh-day Adventist Church in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Session was chaired by Jotham Aldrich with Uriah Smith as secretary.
On the same day, at the first General Conference Session in Battle Creek, Michigan, the first three GC officers were elected:
President: John Byington
Secretary: Uriah Smith
Treasurer: Eli Walker
As we reflect on the century and a half of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, it is time to recommit ourselves to the prophetic destiny of the Great Second Advent Movement.
