In the calendar year 2022, the Adventist Development and Relief agency in Germany – ADRA Deutschland, or ADRA Germany – was able to support around 2.7 million people on their way to a better life within the framework of 67 projects in 31 countries. Almost 30 million euros were spent on this. This is the result of the annual report for the past year, which has now been published.
Finances and quality assurance
In the annual report, the aid organisation gives account to private donors, institutional donors and the public. In addition to the structures and working methods, and the fields of work as well as the breakdown of financial expenditure, it also shows how ADRA Germany carries out quality assurance and ensures that the donations reach the people in the project regions. Only recently, ADRA Germany again received the DZI donation seal, which it has carried continuously since the first application in 2010 (see APD report ).
A focus of aid: Ukraine
In humanitarian aid, also called emergency aid, the war in Ukraine is a current focus of ADRA's work, says the press release on the accountability report. ADRA's aid has reached 550,000 people and includes emergency care, evacuations, education, rehabilitation of buildings and the operation of refugee shelters. ADRA Germany e.V. delivered special aid to the cities of Kiev and Kharkiv. The Ukrainian capital was supported with two computer tomographs and a total of three fire engines. The city of Kharkiv also received two special fire engines.
Priorities of long-term development cooperation
In long-term development cooperation (DC), the goal is to enable people to lead self-determined lives. To achieve this, DC projects are designed to be sustainable. The focus is on food, education, climate protection, and disaster prevention.
Adapting to climate change is a particular challenge for poor families. ADRA helps them with this, for example, in northwestern Ethiopia. There, ADRA supports almost 30,000 farmers and their families to adapt to climate change. They learn new agricultural techniques and receive organic fertilisers and seeds. As a result, harvests increase, hunger decreases and the additional income is reinvested.
ADRAsoteria for the coordination of aid at home
In addition to its relief and development projects in various crisis areas around the world, ADRA Germany also founded the company ADRAsoteria Limited, last year, in response to the devastating flood damage in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate two years ago. It works as an interface with initiatives on the ground and coordinates domestic operations in consultation with the emergency relief team of ADRA Germany. Even though the flood disaster is rarely mentioned in the media, the ADRAsoteria team continues to be with the people in the flood area, the report says.
"We thank our donors for their commitment and their trust in us. In their name, we want to bring hope to the world. We would also like to thank our institutional donors, with whom we have been working together in a spirit of trust for many years," says Robert Schmidt, executive director of ADRA Germany.
