The Marienhöhe School Center in Darmstadt handed over donations totaling 50,000 euros to three projects on February 7th. They come from the last sponsored run organized by the school and took place on October 11, 2023, according to a press release from the school center.

For over 10 years, the Marienhöhe school center, in Darmstadt, has been organizing a sponsored run to collect money for charitable projects. At the last sponsored run, on October 11, 2023, students, teachers, parents, friends, and acquaintances as well as alumni ran over 5,200 laps of 550 meters on the school campus. The runners had previously looked for sponsors who would support them with an amount per lap. In total, over 700 sponsors donated a record sum of 50,000 euros. The donation handover took place on February 7th.

Aid project in Ukraine

25,000 euros in donations will go to an aid project in Ukraine. A Christian school in Lviv, in western Ukraine, has become a refuge for internally displaced people since the beginning of the war. With the help of the donations, a professionally implemented medium-term aid project, in collaboration with ADRA Germany and ADRA Ukraine, is being supported for the second year. Refugee parents and their children receive material and social-psychological support. A number of children can also be taught at school. “With the school project, we want to help traumatized children and their parents to overcome their psychological injuries. Our goal is for them to be able to look to the future with hope again,” says Christian Molke, CEO of ADRA Deutschland e.V., about the commitment in Lemberg.

Education project for Roma children in Romania

Another project, which is supported with 12,500 euros in donations, is an educational project for Roma children in Romania.

“The Roma children are massively affected by racism. We support the children and their parents so that they can break the vicious circle through education and gain access to a better life,” reports Mircea Riesz, campus pastor at the Marienhöhe school center. He launched the “Education Helps” project and leads it with his team.

Marienhöhe school center

The current Marienhöhe school center, founded in 1924 as the “Seminar Marienhöhe”, has been a state-recognized high school since 1950. The secondary school followed in 1994 and the primary school in 2010. The school center, run as a non-profit Association, is an institution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Germany, has its own boarding school and is certified as a “health-promoting school” and school for climate protection. The school also provides practical help: for 30 years, students and teachers have been traveling to Siem Reap in Cambodia to actively support the local partner school with its orphanage. As a climate protection school, the Marienhöhe school center has implemented and supported several projects there that ensure a sustainable energy supply.
