According to the United Nations, 5.3 million people are fleeing within Ukraine. Many of them are seeking refuge in western Ukraine, including around the city of Lviv (Lemberg). The city is currently home to more than 200,000 internally displaced persons. One of the biggest challenges is feeding the refugees, many of whom are children. The Marienhöhe Adventist School Centre (Darmstadt) is helping to meet this challenge by supporting a school in Lviv and the Adventist relief organisation ADRA. This was announced by the school centre in a press release.

To support the "Living Word" school in Lviv and the aid organisation ADRA, the Marienhöhe School Centre is participating in the "Recovery with Love" programme. For this, the school centre collected 23,000 euros during its annual sponsored run. The amount will be increased by 114,000 euros by ADRA Deutschland e.V..

"With the money our students raised in October, 400 families will receive psychological, spiritual and health support. We want the children to feel better and gain new courage. We thank all sponsors and all runners for their support," Dr Christian Noack, head of the Marienhöhe School Centre, is quoted as saying.

Recovery with Love - Help for children and parents

Children experience fear, isolation, grief, and insecurity during war. Children and parents had to learn how to deal with and process these experiences. Within the framework of the programme "Recovery with Love", parents will receive tips and advice on how to support their children in coping with trauma, according to the press release by the Marienhöhe School Centre. The children are addressed in an age-appropriate way and supported in processing what they have experienced. The programme benefits local and refugee families alike. In addition, 45 children have been given the opportunity to attend school. School fees, teaching materials and school uniforms are financed from project funds.

The project team of the "Living Word" school also includes teacher Yana Reznikova. Together with 18 young people, Reznikova was a guest at the Marienhöhe School Centre during the 2022 summer holidays, "to enable the young people to have a fear-free holiday beyond the war," according to the press release. Both schools have a long-standing partnership. ADRA is the link between the schools and the project "Recovery with Love". Both ADRA Ukraine and ADRA Germany support the school financially.
