Pastor Mário Brito was born in Praia, Cape Verde, on September 24th 1955, where he lived for 18 years. In 1973 he moved to Lisbon, Portugal. He was baptised on February 22, 1975. After completing his secondary education, Pastor Brito studied theology for two years at the Adventist Seminary in Sagunto, Spain. He continued his theology studies at the Adventist College of Collonges, France, where he completed his Bachelor of Theology degree in 1981. He also obtained a Master of Theology from Andrews University, Michigan, United States of America, in 1994.
Pastor Mário Brito started his pastoral work in 1981. He has been a pastor in several churches, a Bible teacher and church planter. He was consecrated for the Ministry in July 1987. He was elected as President of the Portuguese Union in 1997, and remained as President of the Portuguese Field until 2006. In the 2005 General Conference Session in Saint Louis, United States of America, he was elected as the Sabbath School, Personal Ministries and Stewardship Department of the Inter-European Division, but also remained as President of the Portuguese Union for another year. In 2010, Pastor Brito was elected as Director of the Ministerial Association and Chaplaincies in the Inter-European Division. In 2015 he was elected President of the Inter-European Division.
He is married to Maria José Brito, and has a daughter, Estela Abigail.
