After the repeat placements of the Waldfriede Hospital (Berlin-Zehlendorf) in the rankings of the US news magazine Newsweek and the F.A.Z Institute , medical societies have now honoured two surgical departments of the hospital. This is according to a press release from the hospital.

The Department of General and Visceral Surgery received the seal for quality-assured hernia surgery from the German Hernia Society (DHG), while the Centre for Endocrine Surgery was recognised by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) as a centre of excellence for thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Expertise in hernia surgery

Receiving these awards confirms the commitment and excellence of the two surgery departments in providing high-quality medical care and surgical procedures, the hospital's press release says. The German Hernia Society (DHG) is a renowned medical society dedicated to promoting the treatment of hernias (gaps or breaks in the abdominal wall through which organs or the peritoneum protrude, e.g. an inguinal hernia). The seal for quality-assured hernia surgery is only awarded to departments that meet strict quality standards and have a high level of expertise in hernia surgery.

Competence centre for thyroid-parathyroid surgery

The award of the Centre for Endocrine Surgery as a Centre of Excellence for Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) is proof of the team's expertise and experience in the treatment of diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, according to the press release. The centre is characterised by state-of-the-art technologies, innovative surgical approaches and a multidisciplinary approach to provide patients with individually tailored treatment, it added.

The awards for the Department of General and Visceral Surgery and the Centre for Endocrine Surgery are proof of these medical institutions' commitment to quality, safety and patient satisfaction, it says. The press release also added that the recognition by the German Hernia Society (DHG) and the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) underscores the leading role these departments play in their respective specialties.

Incentive and pleasure

Krankenhaus Waldfriede sees these awards as an incentive for the Department of General and Visceral Surgery and the Centre for Endocrine Surgery to continue to achieve outstanding results and contribute to the further development of medical care.

"Overall, these awards are a cause for joy and celebration for the entire medical and nursing team. They are a testament to the exceptional performance and dedication of the surgeons and medical/nursing staff who give their best every day to provide the best possible care to patients," said Bernd Quoß, hospital board president.

Waldfriede Hospital

The non-profit hospital Waldfriede in Berlin-Zehlendorf is an academic teaching hospital of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. It has been certified several times according to statutory quality parameters and has already received numerous awards for its medical and nursing quality. About 15,000 inpatients and 120,000 outpatients are treated here every year. The sponsor is the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which maintains about 900 medical facilities worldwide. Waldfriede is, among other things, a cooperation partner of the Adventist hospital network Advent Health in the USA.

The hospital is part of the Waldfriede Health Network, which also includes a day clinic, a social station, an academy for health and nursing care, a service company, a senior citizens' home, the "PrimaVita" health centre, the Nikolassee private clinic and the "Desert Flower Center". The Waldfriede network is the most diverse medical and care provider in Berlin's southwest and, with around 950 employees, one of the largest employers in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district.
