On Sabbath, September 28, at 9:30 a.m., at the Salvation Army worship hall, in Rome, what we of the Filipino Adventist community in Rome have been calling “Baby Church” for months, opened its doors to the public.
It is an evangelistic experience that, at least in our hearts, is already a nascent church. We intend to offer a worship service entirely in English, designed—in terms of timing, language, and methods—specifically for people who are in the Italian capital as tourists or foreign workers residing for short and medium periods.
During our first meeting, we had several such people: a young couple, the man being Russian and the woman, a Cypriot; a young man from Kenya who works for FAO (the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization); other employees of international organizations; an Indonesian Adventist but a citizen of Australia; and so on.
The idea of this international church came to a dozen Filipinos who wanted to spread the gospel starting from their main gift: knowledge of the English language. Furthermore, they believed in the importance of offering an international worship in one of the Italian cities that has such a large presence of foreigners in its territory.
Starting from this core of people and the support of the Filipino Adventist community of Rome, in a few months, the project doubled the number of attendees. Together, we thanked God for the way in which He supported and accompanied our desire to spread the good news of His salvation.
The international Adventist church of Rome is open every Saturday, from 9:30 to 12:30.
