Rome, Italy [CD EUDNews; Luca Alfano]. On Friday, March 7, in the presence of the Mayor and City Councillors, we held a press conference to inaugurate the project "Food Bank Foundation" the food assistance program for needy families established by the City of Ragusa and entrusted to ADRA Ragusa, with the help of the government.
The 15 volunteers of ADRA Ragusa have accepted this new challenge with great enthusiasm by providing time, energy, resources, and desire to help others. This service provides for the procurement, storage and subsequent distribution of food for families who have been reported by the local Social Services as being in economic and social hardship. The location, made available by some institutions, will be open 4 days a week, with morning and afternoon shifts, and in case of the physically challenged, home delivery service will be provided. The project has seen the involvement of major partners in the food distribution like Conad and the Charity Bank.
"For many years this organization in Ragusa has been steadily committed in voluntary work and involved in social activities including Italian language courses for foreigners, a program of support and assistance to foreign prisoners, a listening and entertainment service at the Department of Psychiatry at the Ragusa Provincial Public Health, and the start of a listening center and services in Mazzarone (CT)," explained Carmela Cascone, responsible for the local ADRA services.
The organization and cooperation of Ragusa and its volunteers in the above-mentioned services, is a tremendous achievement and a source of great pride to ADRA Italy. It is further evidence of earned esteem and recognition from the institutions for the work done so far but also a source of encouragement to continue working in favor of those who suffer from hardships. The availability, the practical service, the reliability and professionalism of these ADRA Ragusa volunteers make it one of the most helpful programs in the city.
