Music has the power to touch our souls and elevate our experiences to extraordinary levels. At the heart of the Sagunto Adventist Campus, Spain, is an Adventist music school with a space that has witnessed countless moments of musical inspiration: the Aula de Audiciones or Aula 101. This emblematic venue is not only a meeting place for the talented students and musicians who are part of our community, but also a beacon of culture and art radiating melodies that transcend linguistic and emotional barriers.
However, like any jewel in need of polishing, the Audition Hall of the J.S. Bach Authorised Music Centre faces challenges that require significant transformation. It is in this context that a refurbishment project arises, an initiative aimed at revitalising the space and making it even more vibrant, welcoming, and functional for students and the visiting community.
The project aims to transform the classroom into a place of musical excellence, where classical music and the Adventist musical tradition come to life in a unique way.
Arthur Gabriel Csergezan, director of the music school, explains the project.
EUDNews: What is the project about?
A.G. Csergezan: The project described is primarily focused on the renovation and transformation of the Audition Hall at the J.S. Bach Authorized Music Centre within the Campus Adventista Sagunto. This initiative aims to revitalize and enhance the space, turning it into a center of musical excellence that celebrates classical music and the Adventist musical tradition. The key goals of the project involve: 1. Facility improvement – that is upgrading the infrastructure, acoustics, and technical equipment of the Audition Hall to ensure exceptional sound quality and comfort for performers and the audience; 2. Promotion of music – that’s creating a space that honors the musical heritage of J.S. Bach and other masterpieces, fostering appreciation for classical and Adventist music; 3. Inspiration and education – that is transforming the hall into a place of musical inspiration and education, offering concerts, workshops, and activities to enrich the lives of students, musicians, and music enthusiasts; 4. Community engagement – that is using the renovated space as a hub for the educational and local communities, promoting connections among individuals who are passionate about music and culture.
Overall, the project seeks to elevate the musical experience within the Campus Adventista Sagunto by refurbishing the Audition Hall into a space that celebrates music, encourages artistic excellence, and enriches the lives of its visitors and the broader community.
EUDNews: What is the present reality of the school?
A.G. Csergezan: As we assess our current standing, it's apparent that we face significant challenges stemming from the aged infrastructure of our premises. Our music school, housed in an antiquated building, presents pressing needs that profoundly impact our educational environment.
The infrastructure, outdated and lacking in modern amenities, poses several hurdles. Acoustic deficiencies and insufficient soundproofing within our halls diminish the quality of musical experiences for both our students and faculty. Furthermore, inadequate ventilation and the absence of air conditioning create discomfort, impeding focus and learning.
Further complicating matters, our institution has weathered financial hardships in recent years. Nevertheless, we are elated to report a marked improvement this year, witnessing a remarkable 45% surge in student numbers. This achievement underscores our commitment and the unwavering support of our community towards preserving musical education and nurturing artistic growth.
Moreover, we are thrilled to celebrate the tremendous success of the Sagunto Campus Youth Choir. This year, we boast an active membership of approximately 65 talented individuals. The choir's performances have been nothing short of astounding. We recently had the privilege of performing at the church alongside our orchestra and band, and in a National Youth Event with more than 1,200 attendees, creating a truly memorable and inspiring musical experience. Additionally, our choir embarked on a trip to Madrid, and we have plans for two more exciting trips this school year. These milestones mark a turning point, signifying progress and a brighter future ahead.
Despite this encouraging progress, we still confront an urgent challenge – the need to renovate our music hall. We firmly believe that revitalizing this space is pivotal in not only attracting more students but also in improving the educational experience. A modernized music hall, equipped with enhanced acoustics and contemporary amenities, will serve as the catalyst to reinvigorate our institution's reputation and allure aspiring musicians from our community.
EUDNews: In what extend the project will help fulfill the mission of the school?
A.G. Csergezan: The project to revitalize the Audition Hall at the J.S. Bach Authorized Music Center aligns with the core Christian values associated with music as a means of expressing faith and spreading the Word of God.
The renovation project seeks to create an environment where classical music, revered for its ability to uplift the soul, can resonate with the essence of the Seventh-day Adventist Church values. This aligns with the view of music as a powerful tool to inspire and nourish the spiritual well-being of individuals. The refurbished Audition Hall will serve as a hub for musical education and inspiration. Through uplifting melodies and performances, it aims to touch hearts and minds, echoing the belief in the transformative power of music as a vessel for conveying God's message and teachings.
By fostering a space for musical events and gatherings, the renovated hall intends to bring together individuals from various backgrounds, echoing the Adventist principle of unity and fellowship through shared experiences. Music, as an art form, can convey emotions, values, and faith-based messages. By promoting classical music within a Christian framework, the project reinforces positive Adventist values, offering a platform to communicate God's grace and love through musical expressions.
In essence, the renovation project for the Audition Hall not only aims to nurture artistic talents and cultural appreciation but also to echo Christian ideals by creating a space where music becomes a conduit for spiritual enlightenment and the dissemination of God's message of hope, love, and salvation.
EUDNews: How can people help?
A.G. Csergezan: There are several ways in which individuals and groups can contribute to and support the renovation project for the Audition Hall:
Donations and financial support play a significant role in funding the renovation. People can contribute financially by making donations or fundraising efforts to support the project. Individuals with relevant skills, such as construction, interior design, or acoustic engineering, can volunteer their expertise and time to assist with the renovation process. Spreading the word about the project through social media, community events, or word-of-mouth can help raise awareness. Sharing the project's goals and importance can encourage more people to get involved. Participation in organized fundraising events, such as benefit concerts, auctions, or charity drives, can contribute to raising funds for the renovation. Offering in-kind donations such as materials, equipment, or services related to the renovation can be valuable contributions to the project. Lastly, offering prayers and spiritual support for the success of the project is invaluable. Seeking divine guidance and blessings for the endeavor can uplift the project's spirit and mission.
By actively engaging and supporting the renovation project through these various means, individuals can make a meaningful difference in revitalizing the Audition Hall, fostering musical excellence, and enhancing the cultural and spiritual aspects within the community.
