From May 22nd to 26th, a Pathfinder camp of the Seventh-day Adventist Church took place on the Nordalb in Deggingen, near Göppingen, under the motto “David - according to the heart of God”. 1,280 young people from the federal states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and Rhineland-Palatinate took part in this major event.
The STEWA camp marked the end of a multi-day trip undertaken by the individual Pathfinder groups from the southern federal states. The name STEWA is the acronym for Star Trek. The scouts bridged their respective distances on foot, by bike, by train, or by car, and met at the friends’ camp. The last joint supra-regional meeting of this kind took place in 2009. The aim was to get to know each other better, synchronize processes and exchange tips.
According to Baden-Württemberg tradition, the pathfinder pennants of the participating groups were hung on the flagpole previously erected by the Pathfinders. The camp was divided into individual sub-camps in order to manage the work logistically. There was a central kitchen with over 40 volunteers from Bavaria who supplied the camp. The spiritual program with music and speeches was carried out in a large tent. A previously rehearsed allusion underlined the spiritual message of the speaker, Benjamin Bahr. In addition to the nature education focus and many workshops, emphasis was also placed on games and free time.
Storms on the Northern Alb
On Thursday evening, there were such severe storms that part of the camp had to be evacuated. The DRK Göppingen was alerted, brought blankets, and helped to rescue equipment from the masses of water. Some of the tents were rebuilt in more suitable locations after the storm passed the next day. On Sunday afternoon, the tents were folded up again and the groups began their journey home.
