Thousands Gather in Valencia

The sound of thousands of young voices singing in worship fills the halls of Feria Valencia as nearly 3,500 young people from more than 50 countries gather for the European Adventist Youth Congress (AYC26). Taking place from 4–8 August, the event, organised by the Trans-European (TED) and the Inter-European (EUD) Divisions, has transformed Feria Valencia into a vibrant meeting place where faith, friendship, and cultural diversity create an atmosphere as warm as the Spanish summer.

Over five days, young people from across the TED and EUD, together with delegations from other parts of the world, including the United States and Malawi, are participating in a programme focused on faith, leadership, service and fellowship.

Describing the atmosphere at the congress, Danika Parnell, from the British Union Conference, said, “AYC is a beautiful reminder of heaven. Seeing so many cultures and countries come together makes me never want it to end.”

Under the theme “Made for More”, the congress invites participants to reflect on their identity and purpose through three key themes: Belong, Believe and Become. The programme includes plenary sessions, Bible study groups, workshops, music and sports, prayer spaces, service projects, and an exhibition area where ministries and institutions are showcasing initiatives aimed at young people.

Reflecting on the first 24 hours of the congress, Daniel Duda, TED president, said, “The first 24 hours of AYC26 have been filled with extraordinary energy, joy and commitment. Our young people are not merely attending a congress—they are showing that they want to belong, to grow, and to make a difference for Christ in their churches and communities.”

Among the keynote speakers are Damian Chandler, a pastor and internationally recognised communicator known for his work with young people, and Ivana Mendez, a lecturer in biblical languages and biblical studies at Newbold College of Higher Education. They are joined by other invited leaders and specialists who are leading seminars, workshops and training sessions.

With four days still to come, AYC26 is only beginning. The programme ahead includes mass choirs, a live podcast, outreach initiatives, creative performances and additional keynote presentations, as thousands of young people continue to explore what it means to be “Made for More.”
