Disaster victims are vulnerable people who require special support and attention in the context of humanitarian crises or other emergency situations. Following the floods in Galați County, in September 2024, ADRA Germany, in partnership with ADRA Romania, intervened through the “Hope Above Water” project to respond to the urgent needs of those affected.

The project, part of ADRA’s “Assistance to Victims of Natural Disasters” area of expertise, aimed to support 449 disaster victims. The main goal was to alleviate basic needs, both immediate and long-term, to help them navigate the crisis period more easily, including the cold winter season.

“Hope Above Water” was implemented by ADRA Romania in partnership with the funding office, ADRA Germany, for two months, starting on December 18, 2024. The project activities were carried out in eight affected localities: Cudalbi, Valea Mărului, Pechea, Costache Negri, Cuza Vodă, Grivița, Drăgușeni, and Berești.

With a total value of 31,000 euros, the “Hope Above Water” project aimed to distribute 2,460 social vouchers to 449 people (123 families) affected by the floods. These vouchers were used to purchase household items and appliances, clothing, and food and non-food products, thus contributing to the restoration of the beneficiaries’ living conditions.

Through the “Hope Above the Waters” project, ADRA Romania and ADRA Germany have, once again, demonstrated their commitment to supporting vulnerable people affected by natural disasters. The prompt intervention, tailored to the real needs of communities hit by floods, provided both material aid and a clear message of solidarity. This contributed to rebuilding individuals’ lives and their trust in effective and empathetic humanitarian support.

“We thank ADRA Germany for its generous financial support and trust. Through their contribution, we were able to respond quickly and efficiently to the urgent needs of the victims,” said Walter Creciuneac, ADRA Romania project manager.
